چکیده

• In-situ monitoring of transverse cracks and delamination for CFRP laminates under fatigue. Poisson’s ratio identifies whether early fatigue damage involves delamination. Interactive levels between are quantified. Correlation cumulative acoustic emission energy crack density. Ply-block size stress level effect on accumulation investigated during life laminates. Tension-tension tests different were performed two cross-ply configurations. Edge observation with digital cameras, image correlation employed in-situ monitoring. Transverse dominant [0/90 2 ] s almost non-existent delamination, while interactive both mechanisms occurred [0 /90 4 is by or Cumulative AE a helpful indicator

Post-cure shape errors of ultra-thin symmetric CFRP laminates: Effect of ply-level imperfections

This paper discusses the effect of misalignments in ply orientation, uniform variations in ply thickness, and through-thickness thermal gradients on the post-cure shape errors for symmetric cross-ply laminates constructed from ultra-thin composite materials. Photogrammetry-based surface measurements are performed for laminates cured at elevated temperatures. Significant out-of-plane shape error...

Failure Criterion for Two-Ply Plain-Weave CFRP Laminates

We present an experimentally-based failure criterion for symmetric two-ply plain-weave laminates of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic. The criterion is formulated in terms of six force and moment stress resultants and consists of a set of three inequalities, related to in-plane, bending, and combined in-plane and bending types of failure. All failure parameters in the criterion are measured direc...

Impact Damage Detection of Toughened CFRP Laminates with Time Domain

Laminated Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) composites are very effective in weight saving in aeronautical structural components. For these laminated CFRP structures, it is, however, difficult to detect damage such as delamination, matrix cracks, and local fiber breakages caused by low velocity impact loading In the previous study in 2009, Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) method was applied...

Damage in Textile Laminates of Various Inter-ply Shift

Deformation mechanisms and failure of textile laminates are strongly affected by inter-layer configurations – a mutual shift of the plies. To model it within a traditional framework, one must construct a representative volume element (RVE), which includes all the plies. This is a time consuming and computationally expensive work. As an alternative, the paper suggests boundary conditions (BC) im...

Acoustic emission monitoring of degradation of cross ply laminates.

The scope of this study is to relate the acoustic activity of damage in composites to the failure mechanisms associated with these materials. Cross ply fiber reinforced composites were subjected to tensile loading with recording of their acoustic activity. Acoustic emission (AE) parameters were employed to monitor the transition of the damage mechanism from transverse cracking (mode I) to delam...
